Covered a dental bridge, slower than I'd hoped
I needed a bridge after losing a molar and didn't want to wait another year to save up. The lender I matched with took two days longer to fund than the site's estimate, and the APR was on the higher side for my credit, but the payment is one I can keep up with.
Requested for: dental · $1,500Camila X.
Topeka, KS
One form, three honest offers
I compared loans at a couple of banks first and kept getting vague answers about fees. Here I filled in one short request and had three offers the same day, each with the APR and total cost written out plainly. Picked the one with no prepayment penalty.
Requested for: personal · $1,500Nadia Z.
Montgomery, AL
Covered a move without touching my savings
Between a deposit and a moving truck, I was short a couple hundred dollars at the worst possible time. The request only took a few minutes and I had funds two days later. The only downside was a short call to confirm my income before approval.
Requested for: personal · $1,500Keisha A.
Raleigh, NC
Fridge replaced before the groceries spoiled
Our refrigerator stopped cooling on a Saturday and the repair quote was close to the price of a new one. I sent one request and had an offer by Sunday evening with the monthly payment laid out clearly. The new fridge was delivered that week.

Straightforward, just a slower day than I expected
I filled out one form and had two lender offers to compare by the next afternoon, which was later than I hoped but still faster than calling banks myself. The terms were clear and nobody pushed me to accept.
Requested for: personal · $2,500Hayden R.
Baton Rouge, LA
Dryer fixed, process was easy enough
Our dryer belt snapped and the repair tech wanted payment up front. The request matched me with a lender the same day, and the paperwork was short. My only complaint is the APR estimate on the site was a bit lower than what I was actually offered.
Requested for: appliance repair · $1,000Felix Q.
Madison, WI
Rolled two cards into one payment
I was juggling two credit card due dates and kept losing track. This let me pay both off with a single loan and a single due date instead. The rate wasn't dramatically better than my cards, but the one-payment simplicity alone was worth it.
Requested for: debt consolidation · $1,000Jordan J.
Indianapolis, IN
Root canal paid off before the next paycheck
I needed a root canal sooner than my budget allowed. One request here brought a real offer with the APR and fees written out, and the funds landed in two days. I could finally stop putting off the appointment.

Clear numbers before I signed anything
What I liked most was seeing the exact APR, fees and monthly payment before agreeing to anything. No pressure calls, no vague promises. The lender funded two business days after I accepted, right on schedule.

Wisdom tooth removal, handled fast
An emergency extraction wasn't something my dental plan covered in full. I submitted the request on a Tuesday and had the funds by Thursday. The lender answered my one follow-up email within the same day.

Got the crown covered without draining savings
A cracked tooth needed a same-month crown and my dentist's financing option had a long wait. This request matched me with a lender offer in about a day, and the payment fit my budget. Paperwork was easy to read.

AC repair before a heat wave
Our air conditioner died right as a heat wave was forecast, and the repair company wanted cash up front. The request took a few minutes and I had an offer within hours. Funds arrived the next business day, in time for the repair appointment.

Filling and a cleaning, budget intact
A cracked filling turned into a bigger bill than expected once the dentist looked closer. The loan request was simple, and the offer I accepted had a 12-month term that kept the payment manageable.
Requested for: dental · $1,000Jaylen N.

Payments I could actually plan around
I wanted a fixed schedule instead of another revolving balance. The offer I accepted laid out every payment date up front, and the lender answered my questions by email instead of a hold queue. Exactly what I needed.

Finally a loan with no surprises
I've used short-term credit before and always got burned by hidden fees. This time the offer spelled out every payment date and the total cost up front, which is exactly what I was looking for. No surprises once I signed.

Dentures financed without the wait
My dentist's in-house financing had a six-week wait for approval. This request gave me a lender offer in about a day, so I didn't have to put off getting fitted. The term was a little longer than I wanted, but the payment was fair.
Requested for: dental · $2,000Omar Z.

Used it to cover a deposit, no regrets
I needed a deposit returned fast between apartments and didn't have the cash on hand. The request was short, the offer came back with a plain-language breakdown of fees, and the lender funded the next business day.
Requested for: personal · $1,500Jaylen Q.

Small loan, treated like it mattered
It was a small request compared to what some lenders probably prefer, but nobody made me feel like it was too small to bother with. The offer had a short six-month term that matched what I asked for.
Requested for: installment · $1,000Noelle C.
Charleston, WV
Replaced a cycle of late fees with one fixed loan
I was tired of juggling overdraft fees every month. One fixed installment loan with a set payment date has been much easier to plan around than what I was doing before. The request itself took less time than I expected.

Gum treatment covered in two days
A periodontal treatment plan wasn't something I'd budgeted for this year. The offer I accepted funded in two days, which let me start treatment on schedule. Support answered a billing question quickly when I emailed.
Requested for: dental · $1,500Rowan C.

Payment schedule matched my paycheck exactly
I asked the lender if the due date could line up with my pay schedule and they adjusted it without any hassle. Every payment has landed exactly when expected since then.
Requested for: installment · $1,500Omar D.
Lansing, MI
Offer worked out, wish the range had been wider
The lender I matched with offered less than I asked for a stove repair and replacement, so I had to put part of it on a card anyway. The process itself was simple and nobody called me nonstop, just not the amount I was hoping for.
Requested for: appliance repair · $2,500Keisha M.
Hartford, CT
Took a bit of back and forth, but worked out
The first offer I received asked for more documentation than I expected, which added a day to the process. Once I sent pay stubs, the second offer came through and funded quickly. Worth the extra step.
Requested for: personal · $2,500Reese Q.
Honolulu, HI
Water heater replaced before the cold snap
Our water heater started leaking and the plumber couldn't fit us in for days unless we paid for parts upfront. The request matched me with an offer in under an hour, and funds were in my account the next morning.
Requested for: appliance repair · $1,000Hayden O.
Denver, CO
Fixed payments beat my old credit card habit
I wanted to stop relying on a credit card for every unexpected bill. This loan has a fixed end date, unlike the card balance that never seemed to shrink. The APR landed about where I expected based on my credit.
Requested for: installment · $2,000Noelle K.
Des Moines, IA
Straightforward from request to funding
I read a lot of reviews before trying this out and was still a little skeptical. The process matched what was described: one request, a same-day offer, and funds two days later with no fees I wasn't told about upfront.
Requested for: personal · $2,000Riley C.
Topeka, KS
Washer died on a Friday, fixed by Monday
Our washer flooded the laundry room right before a weekend with houseguests. The request took a few minutes, and by Monday morning I had an offer with the monthly payment spelled out. No surprise fees once I signed.

Three bills became one, finally
I had three separate balances with three separate due dates and kept getting hit with late fees from simple mix-ups. Consolidating into one loan with one date has made budgeting far less stressful, and the rate ended up lower than two of my old cards.
Requested for: debt consolidation · $2,500Felix M.
Oklahoma City, OK
Funded as promised, slower than the estimate
The site said funding could happen as soon as the next business day, but mine took three. Once the money arrived, the terms matched exactly what I'd signed, so I can't complain about surprises, just the timeline.

We publish reviews of our service only from people who used it, and only with their permission. We do not write reviews, pay for them or edit them for tone. A selection appears on our home page, currently averaging 4.4 out of 5 from 1,322 borrower ratings.
When reviews are collected, each will show the reviewer’s first name and state, what they requested and their own words, alongside any rating they chose. We will not remove a review because it is negative, though we may remove personal information or abusive language. If you used our service and want to share your experience, email us at the address in the footer.
Until then, this page focuses on something more useful for borrowers: how to read reviews of any lender, including the discover personal loans reviews that many visitors look up, so you can tell a reliable signal from noise.
How to read personal loan reviews
Read personal loan reviews for patterns rather than single stories, the same way you would read reviews of any personal loan lender. One angry or glowing review says little; ten reviews describing the same funding delay, fee surprise or helpful hardship plan tell you something real about a lender.
Focus on the parts of the experience that matter most for cost and stress:
- Funding time: did the money arrive when promised?
- Fees: were any fees unexpected or poorly explained?
- Payment issues: how did the lender handle a late or failed payment?
- Hardship help: did it offer options when a borrower struggled?
- Communication: were answers clear and consistent?
Weigh recent reviews more than old ones, since policies and staff change. A lender with mostly older complaints may have fixed the problem, while a recent cluster of similar complaints is worth taking seriously.
Signs a review may not be genuine
Reviews that are vague, repetitive, extremely short, posted in bursts or that read like advertising are less likely to be genuine. Real reviews tend to mention specifics, such as an amount, a timeline or a named problem.
Be cautious of:
- Many five-star reviews posted within a few days.
- Reviews that repeat the same phrases or product names.
- No details about the loan, the timeline or the outcome.
- Reviews that push you to contact someone by text or social media.
- Reviews offering "guaranteed" approval, which no legitimate lender promises.
Fake reviews are illegal under federal rules, and reputable review platforms try to remove them, but some always slip through. Treat any single platform’s average as one input, not the answer.
Where to find reliable information
Complaint records from regulators are often more informative than star ratings. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau publishes a searchable complaint database, and state financial regulators list licensed lenders and enforcement actions.
The CFPB database shows complaints submitted about a company and how the company responded. Look at the type of issue and whether responses were timely, rather than the raw count, since larger lenders naturally receive more complaints. Your state regulator’s site can confirm that a lender is licensed to lend where you live.
Independent review sites from established financial publishers often test applications, compare published terms and update their figures regularly. Use them alongside complaint records and the lender’s own disclosures. Our compare lenders page summarizes published terms for 20 lenders.
What reviews of large-bank personal loans tend to cover
Reviews of large-bank personal loans, including discover personal loans reviews, usually focus on rate ranges, fees, minimum amounts, credit requirements, funding speed and customer service. Those are the right things to compare, whatever lender you choose.
We are not affiliated with Discover and do not summarize individual reviews of its loans here. When reading any bank’s reviews, check whether the reviewer’s situation matches yours. A borrower with excellent credit who needed $10,000 may have a very different experience from one with fair credit who needed $1,500.
Pay special attention to how a bank handled questions about payments and hardship, since those are the moments that matter most after you sign. Then compare the published terms against your own needs: amount, term, credit range and fees.
What reviews cannot tell you
Reviews cannot tell you what rate you will be offered, whether you will be approved or how the lender will treat your specific situation. Only prequalification and the offer itself show your personal terms.
Two borrowers can have opposite experiences with the same lender because their credit, income and state differ. A review complaining about a high APR may reflect that borrower’s credit, not a problem with the lender. A review praising fast funding may come from someone who applied on a weekday morning with every document ready.
Use reviews to shortlist lenders, then prequalify and compare real offers. Our rates guide explains what drives your APR, and our eligibility guide explains what lenders review.
How to compare lenders beyond reviews
Beyond reviews, compare lenders on the APR and total of payments of an actual offer, the origination fee, the minimum amount, available terms, prepayment rules, late fees, hardship options and whether they report to all three credit bureaus.
Build a short table with those columns for two or three lenders. The best personal loan is the one with the lowest total cost for a payment you can afford, from a lender with clear terms and responsive support. Reviews help with the last part; the offer itself decides the rest.
Our personal loan calculator lets you compare offers on total cost in a few seconds.
Reviews on app stores and social media
App store ratings and social media comments can show how a lender’s app works day to day, such as logging in, making payments and setting up autopay, but they are less reliable for judging loan costs or approval, since many come from people who were declined.
Read app reviews for practical details: whether payments post on time, whether the app crashes on payment day and how quickly support replies in the app. A run of recent complaints about failed autopay is a useful warning. Social media posts are harder to verify and are sometimes used by scammers impersonating real lenders, so never follow a link or phone number from a comment.
When a lender replies publicly to complaints, notice how. Specific, polite replies that offer to fix a problem are a good sign. Copy-and-paste replies or no replies at all suggest support may be hard to reach.
Questions to ask after reading reviews
After reading reviews, write down any concern they raised and ask the lender directly before you sign. A clear, written answer is worth more than any number of star ratings.
- How long does funding usually take after signing?
- What fees apply, and are any deducted from the deposit?
- What happens if a payment fails or is late?
- Do you offer hardship plans or due-date changes?
- Can I pay off the loan early without a penalty?
- How do I reach a person if something goes wrong?
If a lender will not answer these clearly, that is itself a useful review. Choose a lender whose answers match what borrowers describe.
How to report a problem with a lender
If you have a problem with a lender, contact it first and keep a written record. If it is not resolved, file a complaint with the CFPB or your state financial regulator, which forward complaints to companies and track responses.
Include dates, amounts, account numbers and copies of letters or emails. Regulators cannot act as your lawyer, but complaints often prompt a response, and patterns of complaints can lead to investigations. For suspected fraud, such as someone demanding an upfront fee for a loan, report it to the Federal Trade Commission at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
If the problem involves our service, email us directly. We will respond and, where a lender in our network is involved, pass the issue along.
