How our service is paid, how lenders are selected and what that means for you. We are not a lender and do not make credit decisions.

01

We are not a lender

We operate a loan-request service. We do not make loans, make credit decisions, set rates or fees, or guarantee that any request will receive an offer. Lenders in our network are independent companies responsible for their own lending decisions.

When you submit our form, your request is passed to one or more lenders in our network that may be able to review it. Each lender decides whether to make an offer and on what terms, following the laws of your state. Approval, amounts, APRs, fees and funding times vary by lender.

02

How we are paid

Our service is free to you. Lenders in our network may pay us a fee when a loan is made to someone who used our form, and some may pay us for a qualified request whether or not a loan is made.

These payments are how the service stays free. They do not change the APR, fees or terms a lender offers you, and you will never be charged by us. Because compensation can affect which lenders participate in our network, the lenders that review your request may not include every lender available to you.

03

How lenders are selected

Lenders in our network are selected based on factors that may include the states they serve, the loan amounts and terms they offer, their compliance with applicable law and the compensation arrangements they agree to with us.

We do not rank lenders by who pays us most in our guides. Our compare lenders page lists published terms for 20 lenders, some of which may be in our network and some of which are not, and inclusion there does not mean a lender will review a request sent through our form.

04

Rates, terms and representative example

Personal loan APRs generally range from about 6% to 35.99%, with terms of about 6 to 72 months. Representative example: a $2,000 loan repaid over 24 months at 24.99% APR would have 24 monthly payments of about $106.73, for a total of about $2,561.59.

Some lenders charge an origination fee, typically up to about 10% of the loan amount, which may be deducted from the loan proceeds and is included in the APR. Late fees and returned-payment fees may also apply. Every fee must appear in the lender’s loan agreement before you sign. Our rates guide explains how APRs are set.

05

Credit checks

Submitting a request may lead lenders to check your credit through one or more credit bureaus. A soft check does not affect your score; a hard inquiry, usually made when you accept an offer, can lower your score temporarily.

Our service and the lenders in our network may not be available in every state, and amounts and terms vary by state. Some requests will not be matched with a lender.
