Start your loan request
Takes about five minutes · No fee to use our service · No obligation to accept an offer
Before you start
Have your income, employment and housing details ready, along with your Social Security number and the checking account you would use for a deposit. The request takes about five minutes, and you can compare any offer before agreeing to it.
Our form is a loan-request service, not a loan application with a single lender. Lenders in our network review your request and decide whether to make an offer. You are never obligated to accept, and there is no fee to use our service.
If you reached this page after searching for discover personal loans apply or discoverpersonalloans.com apply, please note that this site is not Discover and is not affiliated with Discover Bank or Capital One. To apply for discover personal loans, go to Discover’s own website. If you want to compare offers from other lenders, the form above can help. We also do not take applications for Discover it credit cards.
What the form asks for
The form asks for the loan amount and purpose, your name and contact details, date of birth, address, Social Security number, income, employment and housing costs. Lenders use these to verify identity and judge whether the payment fits your budget.
- Loan details: amount from $500 to $5,000 and what it is for.
- Contact: name, email and phone number for verification codes.
- Identity: date of birth, address and Social Security number.
- Income: monthly income, how you are paid and your employer.
- Housing: whether you rent or own, and your monthly housing cost.
- Bank: whether you have a checking account for deposits.
Answer accurately. Lenders verify the details, and a mismatch, such as a different employer name, can slow the review or lead to a decline.
What happens after you submit
After you submit, lenders in our network review your request; many respond within minutes. If a lender can make an offer, you will see the APR, fees, term, payment and total cost before deciding. Some lenders may ask for documents.
If you choose an offer, you complete the process with that lender, which may verify income, confirm your identity and run a full credit check before you sign. Funds usually arrive one to three business days after signing, and some lenders fund the next business day.
Unlike discover personal loans or other discover loans, which you apply for directly with one bank, a request here can reach more than one lender at once. If no lender can make an offer, you may be shown other options or no match at all. A smaller amount or a different term can sometimes help if you try again later.
How your credit is checked
Submitting a request may lead lenders to check your credit. Some use a soft check that does not affect your score; accepting an offer usually involves a hard inquiry, which can lower a score by a few points for a short time.
Each lender’s disclosures explain which type of check it uses. If you are rate shopping, comparing offers before accepting one helps keep hard inquiries to a minimum. Our eligibility guide explains what lenders review and how to improve your chances.
Comparing offers before you accept
Compare offers by APR and total of payments first, then check the amount you will receive after any fee, the payment, the term, the late fee and whether you can pay early without a penalty.
Our personal loan calculator lets you check any offer’s payment and total cost, and our compare lenders page shows published ranges for 20 lenders so you can tell whether an offer is near the low or high end. Take time to read the agreement; a legitimate lender will not pressure you to sign immediately.
Keeping your information safe
The request form is submitted over an encrypted connection, and our privacy policy explains what we collect, how we share it with lenders in our network and the choices you have about marketing contact.
Never pay an upfront fee to receive a loan, and never share online banking passwords or one-time codes with anyone who contacts you. If something seems wrong, stop and contact us or the lender directly using details from its official website. Our privacy policy and terms of use cover the details.
Choosing the right amount
Request the amount you need plus any origination fee a lender might deduct, and no more. A smaller personal loan is easier to approve, has a lower payment and costs less in interest, so borrowing only what the cost requires is usually the best choice.
Start from a written quote or bill if you have one. If a lender charges a 5% fee taken from the deposit, divide the amount you need by 0.95 to find the request; $1,500 becomes about $1,580. If you are consolidating, use payoff amounts rather than statement balances.
If you are unsure between two amounts, test both in our calculator. The difference in payment is often small, but the difference in total interest over a longer term can be meaningful.
Timing your request
Weekday mornings are usually the best time to submit a personal loan request, because lenders can verify details and fund during business hours. Requests sent late on Friday or on a weekend often fund on the next business day at the earliest.
If a bill has a firm deadline, apply as soon as you know the amount. Upload any requested documents promptly, keep your phone nearby for verification codes and make sure the name on your bank account matches your ID. Each of these can save a day.
If the provider needs payment before funds can arrive, ask whether a deposit or a short extension is possible. Most dentists, repair shops and funeral homes will work with a firm date.
If your situation changes
If your income, address or the amount you need changes after you submit, tell the lender before you sign. Offers are based on the details you provided, and a change after funding can make the personal loan harder to manage.
You can always decline an offer and submit a new request later with updated information. If you have already signed and money becomes tight, contact the lender before a payment is due to ask about a due-date change or hardship plan.
Common reasons to apply
People use our form for one-time costs that fit a $500 to $5,000 personal loan: repairs, dental and medical bills, funeral costs, appliance replacements and consolidating a few card balances into one payment.
Each purpose has its own guide with typical costs and tips: personal loans, debt consolidation, dental loans, appliance repair loans, funeral loans and installment loans. Reading the guide for your purpose before you apply can help you choose the right amount and term.
